When you meet Sophie Mitchell, it’s easy to see why so many candidates feel like they can instantly trust her. Smart, driven, and people-first, Sophie brings a personable, authentic energy to recruiting. Helping candidates find a role where they can thrive keeps her going, day-in and day-out.

Born and raised in Burlington, MA, Sophie’s knack for career development started early. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Fitchburg State University, where she dove into campus life — from the Entrepreneurship Association to Student Government. An internship as a Workforce Development Intern with the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) sparked her passion for helping people grow their careers. “Recruitment always felt like a natural fit for my background and skill set,” Sophie says.
Her Path to The Planet Group
Sophie joined TPG in June 2024 and has already been promoted three times — a testament to her results and the impact she’s made at Planet. Today, she’s a Recruitment Manager, specializing in Accounting, Finance, and HR roles.
Before TPG, Sophie built hands-on experience through multiple internships, including sales and marketing with TTI Power Tools and that early taste of workforce development at APTA. “My current role is the perfect mix of sales and workforce development,” she says.
Sophie keeps a close eye on hiring trends, especially in the Accounting, Finance, and HR markets. “I’ve found that having a relevant industry background and strong technical skills is becoming increasingly important,” she notes. Nowadays, hiring managers want to be sure that their chosen candidate knows the ins and outs of sector. For example, she recently placed a sourcing manager with a client in the SaaS industry whose experience and expertise led not just to a quick hire — but a contract extension based on performance.
Advice for Candidates
What’s one thing she wishes jobseekers knew? “Timing matters!” As applying for a role early makes a huge difference in terms of getting an interview. “Stay proactive, follow up, tailor your resume, and don’t wait for the ‘perfect’ role to apply,” she says.
For anyone looking to break into recruiting themselves, Sophie’s advice is clear: “Soft skills, professional communication skills, and resilience are necessary. Really focus on these areas in interviews or when applying.”
A Few Fun Facts
Dream trip? Switzerland, for the incredible skiing, of course. And when asked if she could have dinner with anyone throughout history, she says Leonardo da Vinci: “I’d love to hear how he stayed so endlessly curious and creative across so many fields. Plus, picking his brain about ideas that were centuries ahead of his time would be unforgettable.”
