Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) shape nearly every corner of our modern world — but women are still underrepresented across these industries. From the classroom to the boardroom, progress has been made. Yet the data shows there’s still work to do.
In this blog, we spotlight the latest stats on women in STEM — and share powerful words from trailblazing leaders who continue to redefine what’s possible.
Inspiring Words from Women in STEM
“Though we do need more women to graduate with technical degrees, I always like to remind women that you don’t need to have science or technology degrees to build a career in tech.” —Susan Wojcicki
“You need to hire and develop great people. You need to set the vision and trust them to do the right thing. You need to let go of control. That’s wonderful for all involved because you’re empowering and trusting your people to do what’s right for the brand.” —Dr. Francis Allen
“If you are offered a seat on a rocket ship, don’t ask what seat! Just get on.” —Sheryl Sandberg
“Humans are allergic to change. They love to say, ‘We’ve always done it this way.’ I try to fight that. That’s why I have a clock on my wall that runs counterclockwise.” —Grace Hopper, pioneering computer scientist
“Don’t let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. It’s your place in the world; it’s your life. Go on and do all you can with it, and make it the life you want to live.” —Mae Jemison
