With an international presence, the client is a manufacturer of both residential and industrial power systems. From backup generators for homes to microgrid and EV charging solutions, the client supports a range of customers across sectors, earning recognition as a leader in the industry.
The Challenge
The client sought to address various cybersecurity initiatives to better protect themselves and their customers—both residential and industrial. The first initiative concerned the recent acquisition of a new company. Needing to assimilate the new organization into their security architecture, the client was to integrate 2600 devices—including both laptops and tablets—into their digital ecosystem.
Second, the client needed to tackle several mission-critical third-party risk assessments for their commercial customers. Procedurally, these risk assessments needed to be carried out before industrial partners were granted access to the client’s internal systems. As such, this process was central to the customer experience.
The final initiative was more proactive in its orientation. Specifically, the client sought to build a new, compliant reporting solution for its security systems, allowing for greater executive insight into the organization’s daily operations. This confluence of cybersecurity initiatives led the client to seek out a consulting partner to take on these various workstreams.
The Solution: Cybersecurity Expertise Strengthens Client’s Global Security Posture
For years, The Planet Group provided the client with staff augmentation to fill a variety of critical workforce needs, including full-stack developers, UX designers, and accountants. This pre-existing relationship and wide range of expertise made TPG’s sister company, Launch Consulting, an ideal partner for this cybersecurity engagement.
Through our offshore delivery capabilities, Launch and TPG were able to provide pre-vetted cybersecurity talent to tackle the client’s disparate cybersecurity needs. A comprehensive Statement of Work (SOW) was devised and laid out the following Role-Based Consulting objectives
- Offshore Resources x2: performed asset inventory remediation of the new 2600 devices belonging to approximately 1200 employees.
- Offshore Assessors x3: supported and facilitated the processing of third-party risk assessments, assigned risk scores, and provided remediation plans for high-risk vendors.
- Offshore Senior Analyst: Collaborated with client management to create dashboards and reports, utilizing Power BI
- Define security metrics, aggregate data, and align reports with compliance frameworks
- Automate metric collection and assist in process improvement over time
Results
By leveraging our role-based expertise, the client successfully integrated 2,600 newly acquired devices across 1,200 employees, strengthening endpoint security and reducing operational downtime. This accelerated onboarding minimized exposure to cyber threats during the transition period and ensured a seamless assimilation of the acquired company into the client’s digital ecosystem.
The client also cleared a backlog of third-party risk assessments, reducing processing times and enabling faster, more secure onboarding of industrial partners. This improvement not only reduced cyber risk but also shortened time-to-revenue by accelerating customer access to the client’s systems.
Finally, the implementation of custom Power BI dashboards transformed executive reporting. Security metrics are now automated, aligned with key compliance frameworks (GDPR, SOC 2, ISO 27001), and accessible in real time. Leadership now has a clear, reliable view of security performance, improving decision-making and long-term compliance readiness.
